Hey Aretas Performance Community,
At Aretas Performance, we operate on a core principle: Your ultimate strength and power are fundamentally tied to your health. The output you generate on the course or in the gym—club speed, power, endurance—is a direct reflection of the system that fuels and drives it. This November, as part of the Movember movement, we shift our focus to the health data that truly dictates long-term performance: men's physical and mental well-being.
The Pillars of Performance: Health, Strength, and Mindset
Movember targets the men's health crisis—specifically prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health/suicide prevention. From a performance perspective, these aren't just "health issues"; they are the biggest barriers to long-term strength, focus, and durability.
1. Mental Health: The Ultimate Strength Training
Mental health is the invisible core strength required for sustained performance. We often preach controlling the controllable, but chronic stress and unaddressed mental load erode your ability to do just that.
The Aretas Take: Prioritizing rest, seeking help, and managing stress isn't a sign of weakness—it’s the essential mental conditioning that allows you to show up physically strong, mentally resilient, and ready to focus on your goals, whether that’s in the gym or the boardroom.
2. Cancer Prevention: The Discipline of Proactivity
Prostate and testicular cancer are major health risks. Globally, one man dies every 45 minutes from prostate cancer, and testicular cancer is the most common cancer in young men.
The Aretas Take: The discipline you apply to your strength program and nutrition plan—showing up consistently, following the protocol, and gathering data—must extend to your health. Proactive screening (for prostate) and regular self-examination (for testicular) are non-negotiable health protocols that ensure the foundation you’re building is solid.
The Takeaway: Control the Controllable with the Health Audit
Just as we track your reps and macro goals, you need a daily check-in with your internal state. This practice, inspired by high-performance mindset coaching, ensures you focus your energy where it matters most:
The 5-Minute Daily Mental & Physical Audit
The Physical Scan (2 minutes): Briefly check your body. What does your recovery feel like (sleep quality, muscle aches)? Have you performed your health checks? This is about gathering data on your physical system's current readiness.
The Mental Inventory (3 minutes): How would you rate your mental load today (1-10)? What is one thing that caused stress? Crucially, what is one single action you can take to move the needle? By identifying one controllable action, you shift from being overwhelmed to being in control of your mental recovery.
